Common Ground Shoals
about us
Cyclical and systemic issues rooted in classism, racism, and greed plague impoverished neighborhoods across America. Issues ranging from lack of stability in family units to economic hardship and lack of municipal resources make it an anomaly for youth in these communities to find long-term success. To help change the odds, CGS focuses on youth development and leadership in west Florence, Alabama, through after-school programs, mentoring programs, and an 8-week summer camp while also connecting youth to resources and opportunities from the greater Shoals area.
CGS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-denominational Christian community organization located in the Carver Homes housing property in west Florence. With our network of donors, volunteers, and our youth’s parents, we hope to not just help a few students beat the odds, we hope to change the odds for them and future generations.

Our vision is to see a unified, flourishing Shoals community that cares for the underprivileged, poor, and marginalized, and becomes an incubator for gospel-created, cross-cultural relationships that transform the Shoals and beyond, to the glory of God.

Our mission is to multiply Christ-like leaders and inspire hope among youth in the margins.
strategy
Uniting the Shoals community to affirm dignity, inspire hope, and multiply leaders among youth in west Florence. We accomplish this by providing programs and experiences, from after school and summer programs while also taking students on outings to meet others that might inspire them.
